Buoyant over the success of the 1st International Yoga Day on 21st of June, HRD Minister says that the Yoga should be included in the school curriculum for the classes from 6th to 10th. In the beginning, the schools under the Central Govt shall be included for as an experiment.
There shall be the paper of 100 marks. Out of 100 marks, 80 marks shall be given for the Practical where the students will have to execute some Aasans. Remaining 20 marks shall be of theory. Here the students will be taught some basic principals of Yoga, Benefits of Yoga etc.
This news was shared by Smt Samriti Irani while she was interacting with the people in some programme. The Syllabus will the part of the Syllabi of Central and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas. But the session from which the syllabus will be introduced is not clear.
Yoga and Education
As per some of the officials the Yoga Syllabus can be included from this session. According to them the syllabus has been prepared for that.
The Minister also added that the Yoga Syllabus will be for the Centre-run schools. Whether it is to be made the part of the curriculum in the states or not will depend upon the concerned states.
To promote yoga in the country, there shall be the National Level Yoga Competition in the country and the winners shall receive Rs 5 Lac. Yoga shall also be the integral part of the Teachers’ Training Programmes such as B.Ed.
There shall also be the syllabus for the teachers and the govt is mulling to start the Diploma, Degree and Masters in the Yoga for the teachers. The motive to promote yoga in schools is to make students healthier – physically and mentally. In the past too, yoga was the integral part of Indian Education. So, the belief is that in healthy body, healthy mind resides.
